The Dordogne
The Dordogne - or otherwise known as the Périgord and is divided into four areas:
Green Perigord (Périgord Vert)
With its outstandingly beautiful landscape and unspoilt heritage (watermills, Romanesque churches and medieval villages plus many fairytale chateaux. The area offers many nature activities such as fishing or hiking. White Perigord (Périgord Blanc) With Périgueux as its capital. Classified as a city of art and history, Périgueux has an exceptional architectural landscape which is more than 2000 years old. Black Perigord (Périgord Noir) Between the Vézère valley (valley of humankind), classified as an UNESCO World Heritage with its 15 sites, and the Dordogne valley which has several authentic villages, castles and the fortified medieval city of Sarlat, classified as a city of art and history (77 monuments are protected). Purple Perigord (Périgord poupre ) Located South-West of the Dordogne area, this area has been named "Périgord Pourpre" for its strong and elegant wines. Country of Bergerac vineyards.
Le Tilleul is a 100 year old farm cottage, retaining original features including a large stone fireplace with wood-burner and exposed oak timbers in every room.This attractive three bedroom property on the Dordogne/Charente border enjoys a south facing aspect with panoramic views over beautiful rolling countryside. It is one of six holiday cottages sharing large grounds, swimming pool and tennis court. The pretty village of Vanxains is a short walk away with a boulangerie, bar, shop and post office. Idyllic location for walking, cycling, canoeing, horse riding, river and lake beaches, it is just 10 minutes drive from the market town of Riberac and 15 minutes from Aubeterre - officially one of the most picturesque villages of France.
