A leisurely drive through the department of the Haute Vienne is the best way of enjoying the beautiful landscape and interesting towns which can be found in the area. The most memorable is probably Oradour sur Glane, whose devastated remains have been left as a reminder of World War two.

The historic city of Limoges - famous for its porcelain - has long been associated with the wealthy and in the 12th century the city produced fine enamel work, which was eagerly bought up by the rich across Western Europe. Today it still exports a large number of exquisite goods.

Lake Vassivière is a man made lake covering 1100 hectares and was created in 1950. The lake boasts a large number of watersports, whilst bathers can relax on the sandy beaches.
